Hi all,

Was just wondering what announced iPhone applications you are all going to try out when the App. Store is available.

Also are there any applications that you are hoping come out in the near future?

Cheers,
K

Make a ringtone from any of the songs on your iPhone would be a nice one but I doubt Apple will let that through. The program I am most looking forward to is the instrument one (never have owned a touch or iPhone so never had a chance to try it).

Jeff Minter aka Llamasoft has had his game Gridrunner ++ (available for PC, Mac and on Facebook) ported to the iPhone. Don't know if it'll be out on launch day, but considering my k800i just crapped itself, losing loads of games including the Gridrunner ++ port, I'll be grabbing this as soon as it comes out. The iPhone version seems pretty much the full version...can't wait!

Here's two videos:

There is an inbuilt navigation application with directions (Just not audible, so I guess driving is out). The SDK specifically prohibits audible turn-by-turn based applications so I don't know what is going to happen there.

Personally, I want the iTunes remote and some kind of IM software.

Don't know about the dictionary, but the entire NIV bible in a .txt file is only 5mb (seriously!) If one strips out all formatting (font, etc) and Images one can store LOTS of textual data on a 16gb device.

iMetronome will give you a tone at 440.

Features
Powerful Tempo Control
Tuning to A440
Ability to tap a beat out (BPM)
Loud, percise sounds
Advanced presets
Dozens of advanced beat, rythym, and user interface settings
Availability and Pricing
iMetronome will be available when the App Store launches on July 11 and will cost $5.

Mateusz Rajca | iMetronome (http://mateuszrajca.com/imetronome.htm)

Now what I really want is my musical score reader that will store all of my scores and scroll them across the screen once I tap out the rhythm, that would be fantastic (until your battery goes dead in the middle of a gig that is).

im hoping that with the app's so easy to create that Optus build one to check your cap plan usage in seconds.
its always the biggest issue with the cap plans how much out of the $500 worth of calls have you used on your $79 cap and how much data have you used on the iphone.
If they had a nice little app that checked that for you, they'd win even more users over.

To be able to run applications on iPhone & iPod Touch and submit apps to the App Store a developer has to join the iPhone Developer Program which costs $119AUD. This and the fact that you have to have a Mac to build iPhone App will certainly limit the developer base and the number of Free Apps for the iPhone.

jamesatfish

Slightly disappointed with the number of payware Applications, but I'd imagine a big freeware community will pick up in a few weeks.

I'm not sure sure - as Yellow_Fuzzy has pointed out, it costs us money to join the iPhone developer program and be able to submit items to the App Store. The quality requirements that Apple enforce for submissions also add a development cost versus current 'Installer.app' programs which can be as crappy as you like.

The other consideration is that currently the Installer.app for jailbroken phones doesn't include any means of taking payment when you download an app, which makes it harder for developers to put in a cost recovery (or profit making) model. The App Store, on the other hand, makes it super-easy to charge a nominal fee for an application - so as a developer why wouldn't I try to earn some money from my efforts if it's just as easy to charge as it is to offer the app for free?

There will be some people who write apps as a hobby and will therefore continue to offer their apps for free, but I suspect most of the App Store applications will be offered on a micro-payments basis (ie $5 or less).

Well, they can very well be developing it but Apple themselves said they will not allow turn-by-turn audible GPS based applications into the App store.

I guess they must have got around it otherwise they wouldn't waste their time, but it doesn't make sense why Apple would specifically say this then go back?

TomTom and NavMan have similar clauses in their agreements.
