What sort off apps would people find useful for the 3G iPhone.

Personally I'd like to have a simple word processor and a spreadsheet program. Simplified versions.

What would you like to see available?

I think a word processor would be hell to use without cut/copy/paste. :(

I don't know exactly what I want as apps, but I was wowed in the WWDC keynote and I'm sure I'll be wowed when the appstore opens.

I can see that going wrong big time, someone steals your phone and gets every password and pin number :S

Well obviously it needs to be secure, and with 2.0 there is the added protection of remote wipe...

Cut/Copy/Paste is sorely missing for me. Can't see it being an app, but boy it should be.

a simple word processor
I just use the notes app. It's great and serves its purpose really well. What extra features would you want?

It:
- Does spell checking as you type
- Can have multiple documents
- Can email documents
- Is nice :)

marc, is that a standard pre installed app?

Sounds like that would be good enough.

I guess i put this question in here. Can the iPhone support multiple windows of safari open. reason being when i use internet banking with bendigo bank, when i press login, a new smaller window opens for me to put my details into. Do you know if this is going to work with iPhone? a test would be good for current iPhone owners.

well let me consult my dock... adium? yes, safari it already has so yes, poisoned? no, iTunes? yes (i can see the ipod thing being annoying full itunes would be good), audio hijack? no, and graphic converter? yes. preview is unnecessary (and i think it already has it) and smartrooms is work so screw that. also a converter and a translator (if it doesn't already have em)

Cut / Copy / Paste app!!!

I love Notes! Use it daily... as my iPod touch has become my PDA...
but they don't sync back to my MBP!!

I love Notes.app on my iPod touch... but for the life of me can't work out how I'm going to get them across to my new iPhone!

Sure you can email Notes... but that will leave them as emails on my MBP / iPhone...
without a cut and paste, or copy and paste option anywhere....

Notes and To Do Lists SHOULD be on iPhone, and they SHOULD be push items like multiple calendars and emails now!

Cut / Copy / Paste app!!!

That's not an app. That's an OS feature.

I doubt you're going to see it any time soon. If Apple haven't figured out a nice way to do it by now it means they're stuck.

Think I read something awhile ago, it's not quite laptop tethering, but when running, the app turns your iPhone into a wifi hotspot, allowing any computer to connect and use the internet connection like a normal wireless connection. If this happens, I'd be getting it, for any sum of money!

They should be out with an iPhone app shortly, but their web solution is tailored for iPhone.

I've had this problem with a couple of apps - simply downloading them again has fixed the problem. (Note, you can download apps that you've paid for as many times as you like with no charge.)

Doubleclick the app in iTunes, you'll be prompted to enter your password. Problem solved.

I believe this happens when you sync your phone with more than one computer.

Phone recording....so if i'm on a call, need to record an address or phone number and am not in a position to write it down (ie driving or just can't get to the iphone notes, etc) - then this would be great.

Can be done on a Palm Treo - sure it's possible on the iPhone ! :)

Is anyone else finding that when an app updates...it makes a new copy of itself in your itunes folder? I've had 5 copies of the same thing floating around...reimaged the phone from scratch and updated a few apps again...and here come the clones! is this going to happen forever? like am I going to have 250 versions of an app sitting in my itunes library never aging off? :S

I just opened the folder, and renamed the latest ones as if they were the first, and deleted the rest, and no probs.

Yes, I've noticed that too. It's rather odd. And when iTunes alerted me that there were 3 apps waiting to be updated and downloaded, I go to the link and there were at least three copies of those each 3 apps to update! It downloaded 3 of the 6 downloads, now it says that there are 5 more to download, even though I had selected "Download all". It's very odd. And all the previous versions of the downloaded apps stay on your "Mobile Applications" folder in your iTunes folder...taking up precious room on my MBA

get the free Bloomberg app, and you can add australian stocks to your watch list. Just add ".ax" (i think) to the end of the stock symbol when searching

Not sure if this has been requested, but can someone please write an app that cycles through the radios as a shortcut?

That is, I want to enable/disable WiFi, 3G and Bluetooth or all of them via the app.

Is it easy to pick up iPhone app development? I used to be a C++ Software Engineer when I finished uni. Is Ruby that much harder to pick up having never looked under the hood of OSX?

The standards Stocks.app can track ASX stocks without any dramas.

The code to enter for the All Ordinaries Index is ^AORD
The code for the ASX 200 is ^AXJO
For Australian dollar to US dollar currency exchange the code is ^AUDUSD=X

The codes for individual Australian stocks are not intuitive but they are all there. For exampe, Telstra is TLS.AX, Qantas is QAN.AX
You can search for Aussie stock codes that work on the iPhone from this site (http://finance.yahoo.com/lookup).

I don't like the Bloomberg app so much. It is cumbersome and American-centric, it puts Australia right at the bottom of the world indices and can't be rearranged!

Here, here, I've been thinking along the same lines. Maybe even an icon for each on the desktop, one tap turns on wifi, icon shows connection info, another tap turns it off, icon shows disconnection info. Same for 3G, BT & Airplane Mode.
