Yes i think it has always been there. It indicates which program is open.
Don't know if you can get rid of it.

That's not a triangle. The Dock is supposed to be glass that's the glow of the blue light on the edge of the glass, it's always been there.

Exactly, that 'triangle' is supposed to look like a reflection of the blue orb; because of the 'glass' dock. ;)

I recently changed to that dock, and can see what you're talking about.

I changed the files themselves, and I noticed that the old dock has the same thing, just with the whiteness you can't see the blue "arrows" so much.

That's the reflection through the sheet of glass the dock is made from. Think of it as a thick sheet of glass that's tilted back.

Example here:

I'm sure it's completely intentional.

As many other Talkers in MT have suggested,
if you don't like the way your OS X GUI looks,
DO SOMETHING about it - get creative Dood - download
CandyBar (http://www.panic.com/candybar/) and actually create your very own designs!

Macs are creative tools.

Be creative. :)

If you don't like the glass look of the Leopard dock, you can switch to the style Apple uses for when you pin it to the side to make it more like the old Dock.

Open terminal, type the following and hit return after each line

defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES
killall Dock

To switch back to the glass Dock, repeat but change YES to NO.
