MacBook update not for all MacBooks, only those with Santa Rosa and later I believe.

It did not show up for my Mid 2007 MacBook. :)

This page may help those for whom the firmware updates didn't show up.

I have an iMac Intel and it didn't show for me but is for the model I have.

EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237)

The above page outlines all the efi firmwares and should help to work out whether you really need the update or not.

So, if your model of MacBook doesn't appear in the list at all, is it safe to assume you're not meant to get the update?

I'm still running Tiger on my mid 2006 MB 2.0GHz.

The EFI installer comes up with this message:

Open Failed

Couldn't open "MacBookFirmwareUpdate.pkg". This
package type requires Mac OS X 10.5.

Nice work Cupertino, a subtle message to get a Leopard, huh ?

Might just be that the issue that the update is for is only due to the way that leopard handles the EFI firmware.... possibly boot camp related even.

Downloaded the iMac EFI Update 1.3 today and ran it with no luck.

I follow the instructions; shutting down from the updater, then restarting, holding down the Power key 'till the long tone. The iMac starts up and all I get is a white screen. Waited for ages but had to force it to shutdown by holding the Powerkey until it turned off.

Next restart I get the Firmware updater instruction window again. Quitting the Firmware updater lets me use my mac as normal but (according to System Profiler) no update has been applied.

Tried a couple of times with the same result - anyone else had this, or solved it?
