Those of you who like Newsfire, the developer is now making it free for everyone:

NewsFire (for Mac OS X) (http://www.newsfirex.com)

NetNewsWire is still better IMHO. (but I use Google Reader anyways).

What is the advantage of using this over say the new RSS reader in Mail under Leopard?

Some people prefer the interface of NewsFire/NetNewsWire and the additional features it brings over Safari or Mail.

They all achieve the same thing (viewing of RSS feeds), but seeing as they're both free, they're worth checking out and seeing if you like

Warning: It won't let you delete the DW blog feed. I'm guessing it does a few other dodgy things we don't know about too. I don't trust this guy at all... his motives always seem a little questionable.

I'll stick to NetNewsWire thanks!

I used to use Newsfire, but now I prefer NetNewsWire as it allows me to use the mobile version of Newsgator on my iPhone and the articles I've read stay in sync.

For iPhone users, login using your iPhone here with your NetNewsWire login and it all just works!

Great way to read news over lunch :)

Oh yeah, forgot to mention I now have an iPhone 16gb as of last Wednesday... just did my ziphone 1.1.4 update today and loving it. Virgin rocks as a carrier! :D

Shane.

I just can't go past NetNewsWire Lite.

You may want to consider NetNewsWire (full version), since that is now free and packs more functionality than the light version.

NetNewsWire is superb...I've tried them all and it's by far my favourite. I particularly like the implementation of the 'combined' view for reading news feeds or groups of news feeds.

Is this from David Watanabe?

Yup.

Much better to just download the free NetNewsWire (http://www.newsgator.com/Individuals/NetNewsWire/Default.aspx) than do have anything to do with him!
