Hello there
i have a small issue understanding how the layout of how files work in Leopard.

2 machines here running leopard, different views of file layout. I don't mean the grid or icon view.

Computer 1. if i double click the HD down the left hand side in 'places'
i have....
Desktop
home
Applications
Documents
Movies
Music
pictures
Second computer is where i have the issue
because it only has
Desktop
home
Applications
Documents

So my issue is obviously when i download music or picture, where do i put them?
The pictures are in the all images folder but the music is just sitting on the desktop at the moment.

Thanks for any help in anticipation. ;)

Go to your home folder.

Drag Downloads, Movies, Music and Pictures to the left hand side. (Do "Downloads" too if you want).

Done.

ps Downloads is a default Leopard Stack, as well as Documents down in the Dock.

The places column is similar to the Dock. It doesn't really hold any thing. It just holds short cuts to other places on the harddisk.

Exactly. Like a dock for the finder... except it links you to places, not applications :) Very handy really...

"All Images" is not a folder as such, but a "smart folder" or "saved search". In other words, it's just a Spotlight search saved as a virtual folder. If you do a search in the finder using command-f you'll noticed a "Save" button top-right which you can use to save your own customised search.
