View Full Version : Annoying problem downloading Office files

Hi guys

I am running Office 2008 on 10.5.2 and whenever I download an office file (eg a word doc, or an excel spreadsheet), the filename mysteriously sends up with two extensions.

If I download a .doc file, in my downloads stack it is called "download.doc.dot" and whenever I try to close out of it in Word it asks me about saving the template (because it's a .dot file?). Likewise, if I download an .xls file, it ends up as "download.xls.xla".

Any ideas as to what's going on?!

Exact same thing here mate, only noticed it the last 2 days or so.

Happened to a document sent by a friend (who I know uses Word 03 on Windows) and on a form a downloaded from a government website...

Office 08 is doing something funny... Hope it is fixable.

It can be fixed by simply deleting the extra extension manually, which is a pain and it shouldn't have to be that way because it doesn't work with Quicklook or Pages etc. otherwise :thumbdn:

(Is this really a solution? Obviously it's a known problem...)

Praps start using Firefox (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/internet_utilities/mozillafirefox.html) to download Office 2008 files...
