I have recently installed a copy of Windows XP pro via VM Fusion 1.0, for the future, when I might need some Windows business software.

But for the moment, the primary reason is to try and play Street Rod 1 and Street Rod 2. Now I have little idea on how to use Windows, let alone DOS, so thought I might ask for some help. All I have done, is drag the zip file of each game onto the desktop, extracted and started the game. The sound, when it works, is very fast to the point where it sounds like beeping the whole time. Game play is very slow and graphics are all chopped up.

I am aware of newer, graphics intensive games being slow, but a 500kb game shouldn't really have too many issues.

Do I first have to install the game somehow ? Or is playing it straight from the extracted folder still correct ? And if the latter, will the game work ? Any one familiar with these games, and more familiar with windows (everyone), I hope you can help. Thanks

P.S. I have downloaded a copy of dosbox, but have no idea how to use it. Perhaps these games need to run in DOS ?

Dosbox is piss easy to use and would be more robust for what you need it for

Have a look here, http://dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5443

Just watch out for dosraider, he bites.

VMWare Fusion is up to version 1.1.1. Have you tried the latest version?

The Street Rod games were awesome!

You may be better off with an Amiga Emulator and the Amiga versions rather than running VM ware. A virtual machine seems a little excessive for Street Rod.

check out this site as a starting point it has a heap of emulators for the Mac - http://emulation.victoly.com/ (http://emulation.victoly.com/)

there are a host of great sites to get games, but I won't post them here. Just google away.

Thanks for all your help guys. I have found what I am looking for, with help from your suggestions and some more time !!

Who needs windows? To play old dos games, and I have only just sampled this with Street Rod 1. YOu need:

http://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1

DosBox 0.72
DappleGrey 1.8.2 (at the download page, be sure to follow the instructions, and get the SDL framework - no idea what it is but I did it, and it works)

Then you find the games you want, (eg I have Street ROd) open Dapplegrey, and tell Dapplegrey where the game is. Eg. desktop, games folder in apps etc.

Away she goes. I have to fiddle with the settings a little, but the UI is great, and Street Rod is unreal ! Enjoy :):):)

Just wanted to also say that many hours were spent on those games in the '90's. Ah, good times...
