Ni Hao Ma,

I was advised by an apple tech to create a back up of my files and to re-install mac os x tiger.

stupid question but how do i back up? do i copy my home folder? or do i cut and paste it? is it ok to transfer over ethernet to my PC? its about 58 gig and i dont mind doing it over night... or is it advisable to purchase an external drive?

Thanks and Zaijian

You're on the right track, I'd advise to do a copy+paste just incase something goes wrong. You can transfer over ethernet to your pc that's fine as well. You could be an external hard drive, infact i'd advise that so you can back up your photos, music etc in the future :)

Get yourself an external drive.

Get yourself SuperDuper.

Done? :)

Externals are a big help. If you want to backup absolutely everything, you can create an image of your hard disk into an external using disk utility.

I second SuperDuper! It rocks. If you are only doing a one off backup the free version would be fine, although I see nothing wrong with spending on the full version ($29US I think) and using smart backup on a regular basis.

You will not regret it
