View Full Version : Sound out from headphones and speakers. How?

I have a Mac Pro with headphones plugged into the front sound out jack and external speakers plugged into the rear sound out jack. I normally use the headphones when I'm editing so I don't bother my colleagues but play through the speakers when clients or account execs need to hear stuff.

With my old G5, the sound would play through both so I just had to turn the external speakers on or off as required.

With the new machine, I seem to have to go through the System Preferences to swap from one to the other, which is a nuisance.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

You can use SoundSource (http://rogueamoeba.com/freebies/) as a menubar switcher.

On my emacs I use Detour (http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/12240/detour) which can choose sound output from different applications. I wish it worked on my Intel iMac.
