Friends,

When I re-boot the Mac a loud audio beep sounds for a few seconds before it boots.

It has never done this before.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Hmm, what type of Mac is this and how old is it?

Have you changed or added RAM recently? Once booted up is it showing the correct amount of RAM?

are you holding the power button down for an extended period of time for some reason? as in more than just a quick press to boot it?

MacBook Pro.

A month old.

Have not added ram, holding down power button.

Do you have a DVD in the drive? I find that there are always strange beeps and noises when a DVD is first detected in the drive.

have you upgraded the os or anything recently? or can you think of any other changes you may have made?
have you run the apple hardware test (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303605) from the install/restore disk? that might reveal something

if you hold down the power button when booting macs long enough for the little light at the front to start flashing it will make a loud beep before booting

i cant remember exactly what it does? clears the ram or something
you have to do it whenever firmware is upgraded

Sounds like it's indicating a fault try what p53 said "run the apple hardware test from the install/restore disk"
