hey guys, i have a mid 2007 macbook and i think it's time to mod...

currently has a 160gb HD and 1 gig of ram

i was thinking of going for 2 x 1gb sticks of the PC2-5300 DDR, which best price i have found is around $40 per stick plus postage

also, is it worth going for a bigger and more importantly, FASTER internal drive

such as a WD 250gb drive, and go for a 7200rpm drive instead of the stocker

i'm sure this has been covered but couldn't find the exact answers i needed

cheers

I think you already know the answer to your question :) OS X loves a fast hard disk, and is hampered by the relatively slow 5400RPM stock Macbook hard disk.

You'll pay a premium for it, but a 7200RPM 250GB drive would be a nice investment in getting the best out of your MB.

To the best of my knowledge, no, you can't get a 7200rpm 250Gb 2.5" HDD.

You can, however, get a 320Gb 5400rpm 2.5" HDD for around $280.

And a 200Gb 7200rpm 2.5" HDD for around $230.

yeah. get the 200gb 7200rpm drive..... a lot faster, and already bigger than your current one.

(i've already filled up my 160gb 4 times in a matter of months)

Hi Guys

I just joined the forums and have a stock year old white Macbook with 1GB and 89Gb HD.

Can you post the links for the Memory as I will buy two gig at $40 in a heartbeat and where can I get a 200Gb 7200 rpm drive for only $230?

If its not ok to post external links then can you PM me.

Thanks for the help. the forum looks great

Ps this is my first mac and Ill never go back will replace existing wintels(2 x desktops and 2 x laptops) with Mac as they expire.

Cheers

Gav:)

Just remember that faster drives can have the effect of shortening battery life if you tend to be a lot more mobile.

No shortage of battery life with the Hitachi 7200rpm 200Gb drive. It's also silent.
