Yes, allocating music to groups of slides is a challenge because I have not yet resolved it.

If you would be so kind as to educate me...........

This from Keynote help:

Adding Sound to a Slide

Add sound that plays when a slide appears and stops when you move to the next slide.

Here are ways to add sound to a slide:

Drag a sound file from the Finder to a slide.
Click Media in the toolbar, choose iTunes from the pop-up menu, select a playlist, and then drag a file to the slide canvas or a media placeholder. (You can also drag a playlist.)

Adding a Soundtrack to a Slideshow

If you add a soundtrack, the music starts playing when the slideshow starts. You can specify whether to play the audio once or repeatedly, or you can turn it off.
To add a soundtrack:

Click Inspector in the toolbar, and then click the Document Inspector button.
Click the Audio button.
Drag an audio file or playlist from the Media Browser to the Audio well in the Document Inspector. If you change a playlist, the change won’t be reflected in your soundtrack until you add the playlist again.
You can also drag a sound file from the Finder.

To repeat the sound file as long as the presentation is playing, choose Loop from the pop-up menu in the Document Inspector.

TO get a single piece of music to play over multiple slides ... hmmm have you tried condensing multiple slides into one slide using build in and build outs and then chuck a piece of music over the top?

I once made a 15 minute presentation using build ins and build outs that was just one slide. If I had of made each slide independently it would have totalled 30+ slides...

For info on how to build in and out refer to your very helpful help files....

Solution: you can make a song play across several slides, than save it as a Keynote file, and then add it to another keynote file (using inspector, hyperlink inspector, enable as hyperlink, link to Kenynote slideshow), and that way you’ll get a final Keynote file made of various smaller files all glued together and having differente songs playing over the slides in each file.
