hi everyone
I've been lurking around in here for the past few weeks, dipping back into Appleworld again after a few years on the dark side.... but now I can return to the fold triumphantly clutching my gorgeous little brand spankin new 12" PB!!
I'm sooo happy to be back with mac, and have spent the last few days getting everything perfect and feeling my way around 10.3.3 (my last OS was 7.5.1 on an LC520!!!)
Anyway... back to the query.
Why can't I change my 'short name' in system prefs/accounts??

thanks
moth

The "short name" is the unix username for your account. All your files ownership are linked to this name, which is why you can't just change it. You can modify the accounts setup then change the ownership of all the files, however. I've done this when I've wanted to put the hard drive of one machine in another, but wanted the files owned by me on one hard drive to automatically be shown as owned by me on another machine.
