quick question, when the above mentioned powerbook boots i get nothing on the screen. noise of hdd etc as usual, but the monitor stays black, not even a flicker. it worked fine two weeks ago, haven't touched it since and tonight, nada.

If you've already tried Shutting Down, Restarting, and Resetting the PMU - and there's no change, it probably means that the Backlight/Invertor has failed - not too expensive to have repaired, I imagine.

You can check this by shining a powerful torch onto the LCD Display - and if you can actually see the lightless GUI on the LCD, it's the Backlight.

If you see nothing using this method - me thinks... the logic board...

If it's fecked either way, recover all data in Firewire Target Disk Mode.

Ummm.... that might just be me. I haven't washed in a while and my armpits are amazing.

[Yes, it's a total bitch and you have my sympathies.]

If it's the video, you've managed to turn a PowerBook into a Mac mini.

Why not plug in an external monitor, and keep using it as a desktop?

Unless, of course, you need to use it on the run! :D
