my .mac Mail has been great for the past 2 years, never had anything serious happened until now I had windows vista installed via Boot Camp.

I was curious to try the new windows mail in vista, so I set up the account and everything went pretty well, watching all the 600+ emails importing to the inbox, I first thought it was pretty cool and easy, however when I log back into mac I found that all my emails (inbox) were gone! I dont know what happened, could someone help me?

PS I tried export and import, it didnt work.

thanks

what probably happened is you were using IMAP on the mac and pop in vista

vista deleted the messages from the server so your mac synced to the server thinking you wanted it all deleted

How are you connecting to your mail server on the Mac?

How is Windows Mail connecting to your mail server?

If you had OS X's Mail using IMAP, and then Windows Mail used POP3 to download without leaving a copy on the server, OS X Mail won't be able to access the messages on the server (as there are none).

Edit: Too late. :p

Actually, it's not really Vista's fault.

Most email clients are automatically set to delete messages on the server after they've been downloaded.

(For the record, I'm OS neutral :))

Edit: I just checked, and Mail.app does delete the messages from the server after a week by default.
