It seems the new versions of iChat and Photobooth have opened up a whole new world of options for some really cool plug ins made from Quartz Composer...so far we have;

Hologram/Ghost Effect (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=376295) - As many people wanted from the Keynote

Hologram 2 (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=4412879&postcount=110) - This one is less ghostly and more of an actual Hologram..easier to see as well

Invisible Effect (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=377104) - Also from the Keynote, reminds me of Halo!

Water (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=4414250&postcount=27) - Another version of Invisible really...I find it works much better but has green tinges

iPod Ad Effect (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=377360) - Just what it says..

I am sure there are going to be lots more come! There is so much possibility for cool things to be done...check out this hologram effect done by standing still while it takes the background;

I have got all 3 working fine on my MacBook in iChat and PhotoBooth...this is how;

For iChat;

1. Download the file and extract
2. Open the folder; 'Your HD'/Library/Compositions
3. Place the file in there
4. You should have the effect on the last page of the effects menu...it will not show up with a picture though, just the name.
You may also need to repair permissions some people have reported

For PhotoBooth;

1. Download the file and extract (you can use the same file again)
2. Open the Applications folder
3. Right click 'PhotoBooth' and click Show Package Contents
4. Navigate to /Contents/Resources
5. Paste the file into this folder
6. Find the file 'EffectsOrdering.plist' and open it in text editor
7. Navigate to the last paragraph
8. Where it says <string>/user backdrop #</string> change whichever one you want to the name of the file you just pasted, making sure you copy it exactly (case sensitive) and DO NOT include the extension.
For example, if I just pasted 'HoloGit.qtz' into the folder I would change the .plist from for example <string>/user back drop 1</string> to <string>/HoloGit</string>
9. Save this file and exit text editor.
10. You will have to relaunch PhotoBooth and may have to repair permissions some people are reporting. The effect can be found on the 4th effects page, without a picture but with the name there.

Enjoy! Post up your cool new pics! :thumbup: :D

Have just added a supposedly upgraded Hologram effect. I think it looks less ghost like (like the HoloGit file) and more of an actual hologram due to the flicking nature of it..find it is easier to see as well...try it out!

I wanna see some pics! :thumbup:

Just added Water effect, which I find is working better than Invisible for pretty much the same result...it is pretty darn cool when you think about it!

The new Hologram effect really is awesome...it flickers etc and really looks like a Hologram.

I will upload some of my images after dinner to show you all why I am carrying on about this! :thumbup:

yeah these are cool.

anyone know how i can replace some of the defult videos with my own?

You can of course use the last page to drag your own in...but you said you wanted to replace the default ones....I havent tried it but give this a go; follow the steps for putting an effect into Photo Booth, copy the file into that folder etc, then edit the plist file, but this time change the appropriate string from what the default one was you want to replace :thumbup:

Try at your own risk! :)

I will keep this updated as I find more! Post up some shots! :D

These are nice, but on the MacNN forums (http://forums.macnn.com/82/applications/352226/ichat-missing-features-too/#post3518230) a user is offering the original hologram effect from the developer builds.

I also hope someone comes up with a Matrix style effect!
