View Full Version : MacBook Pro screen - how best to clean?

Howdy.

Have a dirty screen on my MacBook Pro, and am wondering what other people clean their screens with.

Have tried one of those micro fiber cloths that you clean your glasses with but it still shows streaks (my mother thought she was doing the right thing by cleaning it with those Windex glass wipes).

Any Suggestions (apart from hiding my MacBook Pro from my mother!)?

I've always used lightly damp tissues with the machine off. Has always worked fine for me.

Is it dust or fingerprints you wish to clean off?

You know how windex say that they have a 'streak free shine'? Well, lets just say that it isn't streak free. Not on a MacBook Pro screen anyway.

Will try the damp tissue - sounds like it could be a go-er

OH MY GOD! Don't ever use an ammonia-based cleaner on your screen. I've found a microfibre glasses cleaning cloth does the job for me.

i use a bits from my old pyjamas. or you can use anything that is flannel material... it doesnt leave any fluff behind. i use one damp piece to wipe, and a dry piece to.... yes dry it off. works perfect.

I'd recommend a proper screen cleaner solution for the first use, to remove any of the crap from the windex. As others have said windex is a very bad thing for computer screens (except maybe the new imacs glass screens). Then after that I'd use a microfibre cloth.

that iKlear stuff is so expensive though my gosh,
I think it was $45-$60 for memory right?
Apple don't sell it on their official website, they sell this
iClean stuff now, that is $45 for the monster clean bottle..

IKlear is great but really expensive.

Fixity Clean screan is lots cheaper (about 1/3rd the price) and works well.

Another vote here for iKlear!
Last forever... and if I have the best computer - I want to look after it.
