Seeing the older "What mobile phone do you have (http://forums.mactalk.com.au/showthread.php?t=6121)" thread was started in May 2005, and most of us have changed phones numerous times since then, the results of that thread are no longer relevant.

Went for other. I have a Telstra (ZTE) F156 phone. It's alright, does what it needs to. Although definitely not up there with my partners Nokia 6120.

A Nokia of some description. Came free with the 3 Mobile $29 cap plan. It has fancy 3G stuff on it but I barely use them at all (Barely use the phone).

Got an old Sony Ericsson T630, which has been pretty reliable (apart from about a year ago when it completely refused to find a network signal for about two weeks, only to resurrect itself seconds before I bought something else).

Still have a Nokia 6280 - seriously thinking about a Nokia E61i to hold me over until a local iPhone release.

Also interesting that RIM/Blackberry is not in the poll there, but Siemens, Panasonic & NEC (who really don't make significant phones for Australia anymore) are :p

I can't speak to NECs, but a surprisingly large number of people still have Siemens and Panasonic mobiles.

I have some black Nokia with a silver frame around it... complete with camera and it even makes and receives phone calls (albeit infrequently)...

The only time the bastard rings is when I'm on call and it's the middle of the night...

i think it might be time for a new phone. i've had the sony ericsson w800i for almost two years now, and it's starting to fall apart. Sometimes i have to take the battery out to restart it. Boy, those gps nokias look pretty swish

I have a Panasonic X70 (had it for about 3 years), but just about to take delivery of a Motorola K3. To me it was the best flip phone I could get on my limited budget. I was looking for something fairly compact, and not too interested in a crap-load of features I won't use.

Need to add palm to that list aswell as O2 and HTC.

I have Palm Treo 680 which has been a workhorse and well worth the money.

I now have an iPhone - waiting for software unlock.

Interesting to see 5 users have an iPhone!

Currently have a Dopod 838 Pro (Windows Mobile) - very powerful, very unreliable. After having tried a Nokia 6680 before the Dopod, I still miss my Sony Ericsson Z1010 from years ago. There is just something about the SE look that I love... hope to upgrade soon. iPhone looks interesting but if no 3G its no sale.

I have a cheap as chips, bottom-of-the-line Nokia. It's the prepaid $69 model. It does nothing and that's the way I like it.
One day maybe...an iPhone.

I have a Sony Ericsson K800i, but I'm currently using a Nokia 6280. I'd really like an E65 to play with until the iPhone arrives next year.

Siemens SK65 - the best keyboard design outside of the iPhone!

http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/262/3064superzj5.jpg

The downside: No camera or MP3 player (if you care about such things), and a little bulky.

I have a '3' 6288, its fine...except for the annoying dust filling the screen which I have to fix every few weeks...it 'does the job'.

For those lucky ones that selected 'Apple' in the poll, i have nothing but envy for you :)

Nokia E61... great phone, . lots of features, but i'd hold out for iphone. there has really been no revolution with mob phones since the iphone. Treo's, iPaq's etc.. have just been lacking in so many ways.

SE K800i for me - very happy with it.
Like the look of the K850i with 5 mpx camera

Question for next year - Will it be theK850i or an iPhone...

Yeah, the flip-out keyboard is for those like me who can't be bothered getting predictive text to work (or find it too inaccurate).

Siemens SK65 - the best keyboard design outside of the iPhone!

I had one of these phones and it was good, but had a few niggling issues that made me sell it.

The damn thing would keep getting unlocked in my pocket and I'd make random phone calls. All you had to do was hold down a button for a few seconds and it would unlock. Being in my pocket squished against my thigh, it would unlock and sometimes call people randomly :(

Battery life on it was insanely low (could have been a dud battery/phone) and plus it was bulky (I was coming into the Siemens from the Nokia 8250).

This was back in early 2006, so long ago now :D

Motorola V3xx and the Nokia e65.
I'm switching between two phones because i can't make up my mind.

The Motorola V3xx is a fantastic phone. Calls come in loud and clear and I like the design (yes I know its old) cuz buttons are easy to press.

Nokia for being a jack of all trades. It does everything, but just not everything well. I'd be thankful to have in my pocket or in my car if i ever get lost, but it doesn't compare to a real proper sat nav device like a tomtom.

just got rid of my Nokia N70 which was a dreadful phone and replaced it with the Sony Ericson M600i - this could be a nice phone ... However, I made the mistake of getting 3 branded handset which is less than useless - as it lacks some vital software that the unlocked versions have and has all the internet configuration locked into planet 3, making it a nightmare to configure for active sync with our exchange server :(
Would love to get an OSX or Palm OS 3G phone if one existed...

im in the same situation.

however, i think we can flash the firmware.
just grab it off the SE site.

need a windows machine which i dont have to do it tho.

i think once your firmware is flashed, i.e to say non 3 firmware, you are good to go.

SE W810i here... plus one of the fairly low level Nokia's for my work phone.

Love the look of the W880i and almost bought one the other day - as my W810i volume seems very low.
Currently torn - like the idea of NextG but W880i isn't 850...
no NextG phone tempt me yet - hope the K850i is good...

and despite craving an iPhone aren't sure when / if we will get it
(yes I know... "Asia in 2008")

Thought I lost my phone today at a conference... and driving back to the hotel was stumped what I would buy if I had to buy another phone today!
I thnk the W880i would have it - even if I only used it as GSM phone!

Had a play with the firmware update - however the SonyErricson firmware update program (running in Parallels) recognises that the phone has 3 firmware rather than the unbranded "vanilla" global firmware :(

There's information on the web on how you can circumnavigate this - but it looks like a bit of a pain and a number of users have ended up with bricks instead of phones...

Out of interest, what is wrong with the Nokia's GPS? Is it useful at all when you're driving places, or is it not worth the effort?
