Good work!

Looks like the rest of us won't need to do it though, the software solution is out with 2 separate companies, and it's update resistant at this stage:

It's a GSM phone...which is what most US providers don't support.

It's a Quad-Band GSM which is compatible almost worldwide. the US has mainly CDMA systems but we're lucky that the iPhone is GSM

What I find fascinating if that iphoneunlocked.com website that plans to charge $50 for the software to unlock the iphone.

Of course they received huge publicity. They indicated a release date two days ago but then (oh surprise, surprise, received an email from AT&T lawyers). What I find interesting is that they have suspended releasing the program until they speak to their lawyers.

How they didn't see this coming surprises me - makes you wonder if there really is the software (my leanings are that there is, but this mob have gone about it the wrong way)

Hi, I did use a silvercard with the infinity usb unlimited. it was to easy, as long as you can get the Ki# without that forget it. I have done 4 other iPhones for a little fee. Just to help pay off the infinity usb unlimited. A big thanks to Oz for such a great tutorial.

Speculation is rife they have no unlock, and were waiting for someone else's release to tweak into their own.

As for iphonesimfree.com, it is reported that they have purchased either geohotz's or the dev team's unlock solution, due any day now.

There is a poster on the hackintosh forums called OZiphone who seems to have some involvement with the iphonesimfree.com business, and we may well see a local 'distributor' when the software appears (if it ever does.)

Add me to that list as well. Thinking of an iphone as i can get work to ship them to me from the U.S. It helps when your companies HQ is based in Nth America.

And they pay for the Fed Ex Charges :D

I'm waiting for the Dev Teams free software unlock and for someone to make it nice and GUIee like in iFuntastic

Then it might be hard for me to not pick up an iPhone

I got a friend to get me one a few weeks ago while they were in the states. The last few days worth of news is definately exciting. From just using it minus the phone function i'm in love.

Looks like this could get lucrative from spideys point of view...

Would there be anything wrong with discussing people unlocking other peoples iPhones on here?

Surely its legal here - It is your own iPhone

No.

The tampering with SIM cards is most definitely illegal, unfortunately.

Let's make one thing clear - there are instructions and troubleshooting tips relating to this process freely available on the web, but anything you do with your iPhone or SIM is entirely at your own risk.

In my opinion you'd be a fool to let someone else mess with your SIM or under the hood of your iPhone. It's not exactly rocket science, but until you can comprehend just how badly and easily you can brick your iPhone and mess with your mobile account, you really shouldn't be passing the buck to someone else.

But on top of all that, we can't encourage commercialising such processes here - if you can't do it yourself, don't do it.
