As per this articile in akihabaranews, it has been reported that a few stores in Hong Kong are selling fully unlocked iPhones. i actually called one store called G-World and spoke to the Manager who advised he has fully unlocked 8gig iPhones for sale at $6000 HK which equates to roughly $1000 aus.He advised that it works on any carrier.Only problem is they dont ship internationally.

That's awesome! Good work to whoever hacked it to be able to do so. :)

However...a non 3G phone for $1000...I'll be right thanks. Gimme a second generation iPhone apple!

There may be hundreds and thousands of great minds in the worldwide web pooling in weeks and months of trial and error to crack the iPhone so it works on any network.

But trust the people in HK and China to first bring it to the market to make a buck!

I will still wait for the formal release in Australia.

This can only be a SIM hack.

Further down the page there is a shot of the AT&T sim card being put into a Magic SIM, and there are references to the TurboSIM and hackintosh forum (I can't get the translation to work properly, so I don't know in what context they are referred to.)

Correct me if I am wrong, but if there was a complete unlocking, the news would be everywhere (as I pointed out in the Turbo SIM thread.)
