(couldn't find this discussed before, prove me wrong)
It appears that the first customers receiving their AT&T iPhone phone bills are not happy about their size. Here's the example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdULhkh6yeA) that's attracting the most hits (unsure why ;) ), and the great article entitled "How many trees did your iPhone bill kill?" (http://www.usatoday.com/tech/wireless/phones/2007-08-14-iphone-bill_N.htm)

A second job to pay your mortgage, a third to pay your iPhone.

$274 is that what I heard on that clip? How can a 300 page bill only come to that? I guess text messages must be cheap and they itemise each one - what a waste of time!

30000 a month = about 1000 a day = 62.5 an hour (assuming 8 hours sleep) = An average of 1.0416 per minute = she crazy.

If she slows down a little for toilet breaks and to eat, then some hours she must send A LOT MORE than that.

Who's she sending them too?

It's all because of the data plans. Apparently they're listing individual items on the bills (ie. "downloaded mactalkheader1.jpg 10k, 0:05 seconds". So each website page load will incur quite a few items. Well... that's what I read from Daring Fireball anyway :)

A lot of citizens of the US seem to be mad about SMS from news articles I have read.

In the US they use minutes rather than charges per minutes. So $30 a month might get you 1000 minutes - thats across the board to other mobiles and landlines etc. But nowadays plans are looking at 500 minutes and 500 SMS or something.

Its insane.

I send on average 300 sms a month which is I thought normal especially comparing female friends. A friend is on a cap but ends up with $300 phone bills mostly from sms. Data in Australia gets me $140 this month :( . I wish they had more reasonable data plans. The iphone will surely need them.

In the US you get charged for sending and receiving so it might only be 15,00 to 17,500. Still a massive amount of messages though.
