is it just me or do the rumoured updates to 1.67hgz seem kinda weak for an update? 170mhz just seems so small....... make them G5's already!!

I believe that the updated powerbook will just see a speed bump and perhaps a new graphics card (to appease the masses), but I find it odd that Nextbyte would reveal this type of information. I thought they, like any other Apple reseller, had to keep quiet about such things.

Whether it will be next week or not remains to be seen.

its nothing to do with keeping quiet. they simply don't get told. In fact Only some people in apple australia actually get told. its all part of steves secret web.

there are few people that actually know for sure.

Although world stock levels suggest next wednesday morning i will be waking up to the news of new powerbooks and about 20 phone calls in the first 20 minutes of work.

I was under the impression that it was not a case of "saying they dont know anything" but instead a case of no-one except the very top people in Apple knowing! I think only the CEO of Apple Australia and a few other high level management people would know the details.

I seriously doubt that any of the numerous Apple resellers or Apple solutions employees/owners on this site know when the update will occur.

It is unlikely that the Next Byte employee actually knows when a new PB will be released. I would imagine that he has been looking at rumour sites. Sometimes, when I was working there, we heard that a new product was coming out the next day, or even in a couple of days.

You never know though, it is around the corner...

The 12" Powerbook combo is advertised in today's Sydney Sun-Herald for $2099 at Bing Lee's Rhode's store. They also have the 12" superdrive for $2399. The 15" combo is $2699 and with super d is $3299. The 17" is $3599. Bing Lee claim "everything's is negotiable". Domaine has a similar ad but slightly more expensive.

EDIT don't bother checking their web site.

Those figures are $300 - $800 below RRP...they must be the old models right?

Anyone seen these figures in writing in a paper etc?

Is that the old model or what?
Just compared the specs with the apple website. Yes, they appear to be the old model as the 12" and 15" only have 256Mb RAM.

We went into Myer yesterday and they had PowerBooks and iBooks which were cheaper than on student price by about $50. They were previous models (which suprised me with the iBooks).

So anyone thinking they're getting a bargain in these types of stores make sure you check the specs of these models to the current line.
