anyone know of a way to make firefox use the mac os global proxy settings instead of its own?
it is not aware of location changes

I don't think it's possible.
I always have to set it myself in Options/Advanced/Network or wherever it is.

So sometimes I use Safari/Camino (close enough to Firefox) if I want to rely on the global location settings.

ta, at current i use netscape when i need proxy, it is the same as firefox just with different skin
still a chore though,
if only safari had bookmark syncing (free)

maybe you can get a bookmark syncing plugn from pimpmysafari.com or something

thanks but nothing works as nicely as foxmarks for safari
the download manager 'downthemall' also has no free safari alternative :(

The Add-on you're looking for is called SystemProxy. You can download it for free here: mozdev.org - systemproxy: index (http://systemproxy.mozdev.org/)

It basically reads the proxy settings from the Mac's Location preferences and makes Firefox Location aware just like Safari. Works like a dream.
