I know that I can sync email accounts between 2 computers, via dotmac.
Can I sync messages, so each machine has the same messages without each one downloading them from the server?

It won't work through iSync, but maybe there's another app to make it happen. I would've just let them download off the server separately.

I do it by creating and running an IMAP account off my own computer. That way I can always access messages on my main computer with any email program I want and access my saved emails from other computers on my network, including PCs. Your email program on each computer will store a cache of all your emails, and if you make any changes to your emails on your other computers, they will be synced back to your original emails.

The software is all open-source, I've written a terminal script to install it if you need help.
The binaries are here:
ftp://ftp.cac.washington.edu/imap/imap.tar.Z
Instructions are here:
http://www.npcole.com/usingimaptiger.html

Then, once you're running the IMAP server, (to get to the point of your request) create some rules on the first computer to copy all incoming messages from your external mail account to your new 'internal' IMAP account.
You can also store all your old 'offline' emails on your new IMAP account.
