View Full Version : Best OS 9 Browser?

Hi,

I'm configuring an older G3-based Powerbook, running OS 9, and I'd like to be able to comfortably browse the web using a stable, decent browser.

I've been searching around and some people swear by iCab, others do not, recommending the final version of Internet Explorer for best compatibility. Or, a crappy old version of Opera. Or lastly, a combination of browsers for different tasks! Argh.

It's been a while since I've browsed the web using OS 9, so thought I'd ask the old timers here what they've found half decent!

My browser of choice was netscape although sometimes I had to resort to explorer. If you just want one browser I would have to recommend explorer.

IE can be a little flakey, but seems to work the best with most sites.

I used IE, netscape and mozilla back in OS9, I still recommend IE when I am using OS9 and sometimes go with mozilla depending on sites

Yeah, I'd recommend IE - that's what I used then. It only went to 5.0.x though didn't it?

It got up to 5.1.7 on OS 9 and 5.2.3 on OS X.

Just found a place where you can get them both still (http://www.pure-mac.com/webb.html#mie) - 5.1.7 for Mac OS 8/9 & 5.2.3 for OS 10.1.5 or higher.
