Think I better buy a license and claim it on tax return.. haha

yup, thats what i did last year - given that the only reason i have for installing parallels is for etax the deduction is perfectly legit.

what an ripoff though - $39-99 for the upgrade when the sofware is only $79-99 - and then they try to spin it as a 50% discount which is blatantly false advertising, its a 20% discount on the upgrade price of $49-99.

its like saying the upgrade is a 98% discount on an ounce of gold!!

This release has just put VMware Fusion on another back foot.. wonder what is going to happen next from VMware... time will tell :)

So does that mean current owners of parallels has to pay for this upgrade too?

Sounds like it. If so, I hope we get a heavy discount!

I would say so mechcon as its a full version update to V 3.XXX, It does state on the site however if you bought parallels after may 1st you get the upgrade for free, and if your a maintenance holder you get the upgrade for free.

Everyone else pays

HOW TO UPGRADE:
Pre-order the Upgrade by June 6th for the special price of $39.99, that is 50% OFF the regular retail price!
Upgrade later at the regular upgrade price of $49.99
Maintenance customer? You will get the upgrade for FREE!*
Purchased after May 1st? You will get the upgrade for FREE!*
* Customers will be sent their free upgrade keys within one week of Parallels Desktop for Mac general availability.

jeremy_warnock

Reading the above I would say- non customers get the product for $39.99 and have to pay the upgrade of $49.99 later Total $89.98. Existing customers upgrade for $49.99

I'll pre-order it as well. My only hope is that Linux etc works a bit better. As it stands, I prefer using VMWare for it and Parallels only for Windows.

absolutely, bring on Ubuntu support PLEASE!

jeremy_warnock

Im not the only one?? I thought linux under parallels was absolute crap. The only destro I have had reasonable success with is Linspire, although Ubuntu 7 was a lot better - I always figured it was something I was doing wrong

Thats a bit high, isn't it?

Exchange rate has been above 80 cents for ages, and is currently 82.something

Am interested to see how 3d stuff goes, though.

Everyone's going to be looking at the 3D performance, eh? Can't wait to see the benchmarks - there's a couple of games (Guild Wars, Trainz) that I'd love to get back into. :)

Deus-EX for me personally.

Nightbreed
1st June 2007, 12:19 PM
Even if the 3D support isn't fantastic it's should run Deus-EX without a hitch. being an older game. The real test for me will be Supreme Commander, C&C 3, Farcry etc...

I guess it is due to the exchange costs

no directx support still though. (perhaps it does)
The beta had hardly any differences.

Well see.

I bought parallels with a "1 year of free upgrades" offer. :) (this was in December 2006)

I just hope that I can play some old school windows games that require directX.
