Did Quanta just confirm a second-gen iPhone?

Rumors (http://www.itwire.com.au/content/view/12499/1103), reports and now a seeming confirmation that Quanta will also be building the Apple iPhone sees Quanta’s statement point to a second generation model, which another report suggests could come with a different case design.

Not from what I read. The Quanta iPhone will be for non-US markets.

Quoting Hardmac.com (http://www.hardmac.com/news/2007-05-29/#6810):

According to the Chinese newspaper Commercial Times, Quanta will be the second company to manufacture Apple iPhone, in addition to the first contractor Foxconn. It seems Quanta will manufacture the iPhone model dedicated to non-US markets, while Foxconn will supply units for US consumers.
Quanta-produced iPhone is reported to be externally different than the one available in the US, however it remains unclear if such differences are only restricted to esthetical changes, or if it also implies some internal modification (UMTS support for non US models?).

This is not really surprising at all...

given that the American version is gimped from the start by not being 3G. Apple are due to take the iPhone to Europe late this year... and it would have to be 3G to compete in Europe...

so it stands to reason that they are developing a new version. And for it to be a success in Japan or Korea they are going to have to heavily modify it and add features above and beyond what it already has....

basically what Im really trying to say is
there is nothing really to see here... move along

I don't think all the whiners are going to be happy until it has at least 80GB of storage and ten cameras on it!

Well I was hoping to have 11 cameras and 80.5gb of storage. No iPhone for me any time soon I guess.

Here's the number one question I'd like answered if you're in the presence of an actual iPhone: whose sim is it using (I'm guessing AT&T) and whose network is it roaming on?

Someone should digg that image of yours disko, bound to drive a few thousand more people to mactalk :)

You guys should be considered press sooner or later, i'd guess that mactalk would be the biggest apple media outlet in Australia..
