Hope someone else hasn't already discussed this, but what is your best screen saver? Mine is Desktop Aquarium at present. It's really life-like. Here's the link. http://www.uselesscreations.com/mac/fish/DesktopAquarium3DSS.Trial.dmg

I have a few:

- Bouncing Cow: It makes everyone who sees it crack up.
- LotsaWater: people go "Ooh" when your screen goes wavy. Works well with backlight and a picture (with occasional ripples).
- Bumps: Just so cool.
- Soundstream: It lights up if you make a noise
- Fenetres Volantes: Fun to see your windows flying around.

But I suppose my favourite is HyperSpace, by Terence M. Welsh. Just looks so great when you come in and see the 3Dness.

Pyrotheque (http://toastycode.com/pyrotheque/) is a recreation of the System 6 Pyro screensaver. It's a trial for the old version, but the new full colour version is free. Fireworks on your Desktop!

KPSaver (http://kpsaver-screensaver.en.softonic.com/mac) is a kernel panic screensaver. not very effective as the background images remain static, but great for a novelty every now and then.

Helios - 1.4.2 (http://seiryu.home.comcast.net/savers.html) - and watch universes spawn and collide serenely upon your screen - either in wireframe - or smooth bubble oil spectrums.

Yeah, Helios works great as a backsaver - doesn't use too much processing to look really cool.

Took me ages to find this the first time, but System47 is the best Star Trek screen saver. I put it on my mini HTPC and it looks mint when it comes on :p

I was hooked on the 20th century voyage for months!

Looked great on my PB - as well as fascinating with the history / trivia / facts / and mix in with recent events as well!

LotsaWater made my entire workplace go 'ooh...aah' in unison as they watched it on a new 17" Intel PowerBook.

Tried Helios on my G4 PB 15" and it kept causing the screen to remain dark after sleep so that I had to hard restart.

Fenetres Volantes < http://objective-cocoa.org/fenetresvolantes/en/index_en.html > is my current pick.

I found "electric sheep" used a few gig a month of my download limit on its standard settings (you can turn that part off) but it made me think I had a neighbor freeloading on my wireless for a while.

This is another goodie...
I still have it on my PB.

I also have been using the iTunes Artwork lately a bit.

/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background

drop that into the terminal and suddenly your current screensaver of choice just got a whole lot better.

not recommended for machines on battery power, but it uses few clock cycles and looks ever so cool...

what do you mean it gets better?

what do you mean it gets better?

the idea is to tempt you to try it out...

it actually just sets your current screen saver as the background image...

Dude you're a legend! I've wanted something like that for ages.

write it to a unix executable like i did and have it set as a login item. wont need the terminal to run, and will be there all the time.

only suggest this if you have a beefy machine or dont need to do heaps of heavy processing work.

Just tried it on mine and the machine hit the floor. Mouse movements were lagging, etc.

True as they say, faster machines only.

I'm using the photo slideshow, but exclusively drawing from a folder of hi-res Hubble images - it's ever so spiffy :)

*tries W2ttsy's terminal thingy* Oh, that's so awesome! :D

*reluctantly shuts it down and gets back to work...*

I made a Quartz Composer screensaver called Video Bubbles (based on a sample script called Noisy Bubbles, but almost entirely different internally) that shows bubbles floating up the screen that reflect whatever the iSight sees.
