Apple is selling 30gb refurbished Video iPods for only $270 inc delivery - not bad considering a new one is $380. $100 off for an item that's exactly the same! (sans fancy box)

I ordered one of these on Thursday morning, I received it before 11am on Friday.

It's sweet, my first iPod. It might be a refurb but I can't tell the difference, not a scratch on it.

At the price I won't be upset if a new iPod version is released next week, which because I just bought this one... is a high probability.

Are these 5G? Not "5.5"?

Edit: Looks as though they are the old ones.

The one I got is a gen 5 according to this web page (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61688#ipodfifth2) because the serial number ends in SZ9 and there is no search feature in it that I can see.

It's model number is MA002X

Also looking up the serial number on the Apple web site returns that it is a gen 5.

even if it's a 5th gen the only thing thats missing is the search feature.
and with the last software update the ipod video's also received a big update on the screen brightness!

They currently have white ones because when they first came out i remember that you couldn't get a white one at all because they were all sold out.
Naturally they would have the largest stock of these that were taken back due to faults.

whats this search feature in the 5.5?

The search feature on 5.5 is under the 'Music; menu, it is sort of like of a spotlight search on the iPod, it is not a bad and comes in handy if you have a large library on your iPod and want to see if you have a particular song.

Edit: See http://www.apple.com/au/ipod/features.html and click on 'search' it gives you a Quicktime demo. :)

Err, I think you're trying to say there's more white ones out there than black ones. I'd be interested to see some evidence of this (other than circumstantial) because I don't recall Apple ever releasing data about colour breakdowns, going all the way back to the original five-coloured iMacs.

yes exactly!
i remember from nov 2004 up to the release of the 5.5 gen's the white ones were hard to get (well not very hard but you had a better chance of getting a black one) i also know this through the apple store i work at.
To this date white ones are alot more popular than black.

They came back! :D

Mine arrived Friday. My 3G had been dead for nearly a year, and I badly missed having a full-size iPod. At that price, easily justified.

I can't see new iPods until Xmas at least, given how Apple are all tied up with the iPhone and Leopard.

still only available in ghastly white...

Easily fixed with the mandatory iPod cover.

It came with a black slipcover and the newer iPod headphones, I'd guess that they're out of the old ones.

im still reeling myself...i work at a pawnbroker and one day we got a brand new, fully boxed 80gb 5.5g ipod in black, we had $395 ticket price

i get 20% discount so it wouldve been $313, but by the time i had scrounged enough money to buy it another salesman sold it :(

since that day ive been jaded by the value of ipods :p
