Anyone out there want to take a guess when the mini is going to get a HDMI connection?

Hopefully in the next upgrade.

But for now won't this do: Belkin PureAV HDMI Interface-to-DVI Video Cable (8 ft./2.4 m)

Yeah, I suspect more Macs than just the Mac Mini will start seeing HDMI action as they get updated. Especially since HDMI has the advantage of pulling an audio signal too. :)

Now, if only they get around to releasing those new iMacs tonight... ;)

Would be interesting to see it done. It's not necessarily needed (just use DVI to HDMI and optical to optical cable). All in one HDMI would be nice for that clean, easy look to plug directly into your LCD to use the speakers built into it. However, I would figure most people are plugging their audio into an amplifier, not a TV directly, so it's no biggie. The Mac Mini is a computer first, HTPC second.

Yes, its lack of HDMI is not a killer but we must be close to HDMI replacing DVI as standard. I did notice that the AppleTV has HDMI and am tossing up whether to buy a mini but think I will wait a while yet for HDMI and Leopard (that shuffle app sounds a killer).

It terms of people plugging their gear into amplifiers most of these are now sporting HDMI inputs/outputs and switching. (http://http://www.sony.com.au/homecinema/catalog/product.jsp?categoryId=22050 (http://http//www.sony.com.au/homecinema/catalog/product.jsp?categoryId=22050))

I hate cables with a passion so bring on the HDMI mini!

Why? HDMI is DVI, just a very limited form of DVI with audio. HDMI is Single Link only, you can't use it with high resolution monitors. It also doesn't support analogue signaling. HDMI is a poor standard only suited to television not computer displays.

The replacement for DVI is DisplayPort. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort)
