Hey guys I need some help, i looked for answers in the forums but the 'technical jargon' has me lost. Im not really familiar with macs and ust got one i was wondering, how do i open ports? Im using a bit torrent client and it says I am blocked by a firewall, i guess its just the regular mac os x firewall. How do I block this or open ports or whatever I have to do thank you very much for any help

the torrent client still seems to think it is firewalled though...hopefully that will go away eventually

probably useful if you specify which bt client is being used.

I think you need to tell us how you're connected to the internet. I assume it's broadband of some kind. We need to know: cable or ADSL? What modem or whatnot connects you to the internet.

As for the Mac OS X firewall, it should be off in most cases.

perhaps their server firewalls, i assume there is such a thing?

from memory, those using torrents at latrobe uni could never get full speeds as the server throttled their port, unless they were in, or had friends in, the it department.

Change your BT port to something other than 6881 as your college has surely firewalled it.
