View Full Version : HELP!!! I Can't Install 10.3

7th January 2005, 05:37 PM
I have tried to install 10.3.4 from dvd onto new blank formatted HDD. It reads the disk and says somthing like reading packages. It comes back saying :

"Bundled software cannot be installed on this computer"

Any thoughts? :(

Is this disk the one that came with your machine? Bundled system install disk(s) will sometimes not install on different models.

My guess, and this is pure speculation, is that the DVD you are using was part of someones new macintosh purchase and is a machine specific installer much like the old days of OS 9 rather than the retail universal installer. It would go something like this: the installer examines your machine finds a machine ID, compares this to a corresponding ID stored on the disk (DVD) and says either yes or no and the installer either proceeds or quits. (the retail OS X (10.3.x) installer comes on 3 CD's plus the X11 CD) It is a mechanism designed to stop people selling bundled software.
