I've been thinking of getting a laptop in the mid-term, and of course I've been thinking in terms of a macbook. However...

... all show a majority of customers with major problems with the power adaptors, new and old including the magsafe. These include fraying and sparking, and several replacements in a short space of time.

I'd be relying on the power adaptor most of the time (I'm not one to get too excited about a maximum of 5 whole hours for a battery...) so these reports are very off-putting, especially as Apple seem unable or unwilling to fix the problem.

Can anyone here confirm or deny these issues from their own experience?

I haven't heard any of those symptoms occuring here on MacTalk - I don't think it's a major problem and if something did happen to the power adapter, it will be covered under warranty.

If it's very important to you, I would suggest buying a spare power adapter, so if 1 of them goes adn you need to take it in to be replaced, you at least have a spare one at home to use, plus, you can have one at the office and one at home :)

I bought an extra when I got my MBP. One at home, one at work. Can take either in a pinch if I needed else.
