Hello all - does anyone have any thoughts on a good backpack for the 17" PowerBook? So far I've only found 2:

STM - Large Loop
Targus - XL Notebook Backpack

Does anyone have any other suggestions or thoughts on those models? I like the look of the STM bag - although I'm not a huge fan of the red...olive or gray would be preferable.

Cheers all!

Well, one of our users, frenchtoast reviewed an "All the Kings Men Laptop bag" not long ago: http://www.appletalk.com.au/articles/index.php?article=1725

And as a result, AppleTalk members can have a discount of 12% from rushfaster (who sell them) http://forums.appletalk.com.au/index.php?showtopic=1722

That might be a deccent starting point.

personally, i use a macally "man bag" style case that i got from epowermac.

I would have gone Crumpler Team Player before they cracked down on their resellers prices... (apparently *allegedly* etc they have told resellers that if they sell below crumplers "recommended price" that they wont get stock anymore) - that could all be BS but thats what my guy told me...

Long story short i got the Base Toucher (upto 16") for $130 after discounts and the Team Player (upto 17") was $170 before discounts (15% for uni students)...prices have gone up now so you cant get them for that price..

still tho, they are really good bags, made well and dont just have straps and pockets for no reason.. really well made and usefull.

The best case i have for my 17" powerbok was a BELKIN "sleeve", it was made outta of wetsuit like material and could fit into other bags.. its still had heaps of padding etc and only costs around $37 from officeworks.

hope this helps...

Thanks for all of that. I forgot to mention I checked out the Crumpler bags. You're right about the manufacturing quality - they look and feel very sturdy. However - they're very very big...although, to be fair, I haven't compared the size with the others I mentioned.

As for the sleeve - I bought an STM Glove with the PowerBook - it's sensational, I highly recommend them.

Off topic - but I also recommend the ScreensavRz LCD Protection Cloth - available from Radtech (http://www.radtech.us/). I ordered online and it was delivered promptly (around 10 days).

Cheers all!

If you want slimline that BELKIN case with carry strap is great.

Also another slimline range is by Booq, they are really really good quality but at a price.. around $100-150. Maybe some that are cheaper..

check out www.power.com.au or if someone else knows where they are sold.. they look pretty shit on website but a million bucks in real life...
