View Full Version : The coolest 'lifestyle' additions to a mac...

5th December 2004, 11:14 PM

Was just coming up with a list of what I think are the coolest add-on lifestyle devices to the Mac that help create the vision of it being a digital hub. (and perhaps thinking of what Santa might want to bring me for Christmas this year) :-)... Here's what I've got so far;

Elgato's EyeTV ( http://www.elgato.com )

Ovolab's Phlink ( http://www.ovolab.com )

Griffin Technology's Radio Shark ( http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/radioshark/ )

Roku Lab's Soundbridge and Digital Media Player ( http://www.rokulab.com )

Apple's Airport Express ( http://www.apple.com/airportexpress )

Keyspan Express Remote ( http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/urm17a/ )

Bose Sound Dock ( http://www.bose.com/controller?event=DTC_L...d=k893&src=k893 (http://www.bose.com/controller?event=DTC_LINKS_TARGET_EVENT&DTCLinkID=3049&perfsourceid=k893&src=k893) )

Curious to see what other nifty knick knacks others have others come across that are worthy contenders :-).

Griffin Powermate - http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powermate/

Ummm well it glows, and you can make it pulse when it glows, and you make it glow lighter or darker by turning the knob on it. I hear you can also program it to do special things when you click it or turn it....... but really its all about the glow.

I'll admit, I got sucked into buying a powermate, which, as it turns out, has lived most of its life in my desk drawer...

Even more gadgety than the powermate (I didn't believe it was possible) is the 'icemate' from macmice - an acrylic stand for the powermate that gives even more glow;

(It doesn't appear to be listed on macmice.com anymore, so maybe they realised people don't buy almost useless accessories for almost useless accessories) :-)

Maybe its time for Apple to make a Media Center as well. With the Apple Touch. :D

for me nothing beats an airport express.
they are so easy to use and have very good features.
i love being able to use a real app to configure it instead of a web based admin like other routers.

i have a powermate but dont use it much.
its very handy for video editing though

Slim Devices Squeezebox
Is anyone aware of a comparison between Slim Device's Squeezebox and Roku Lab's Sound Bridge? They seem to be pretty similar in purpose...
