Hi I have a new MacBook and have been given a relatively oldish Canon BJC80 completely portable printer. Compact and able to run with a rechargable battery and connects to the computer either by the old large printer cable or by infrared. Is there some way that I can get my Macbook to recognise this printer??

Thanks
Wayne

You can purchase an adaptor from parallel (the big fat plug) to USB. They're about $5 at most Mac shops.

Also, double check there is Intel support for the BJC80 in OS X, it's a fairly old printer I think and may not have support for the Intel CPU in your MacBook.

I'd personally hunt for a second-hand BJC85 which, from memory, has USB. It'll be less hassle in the long run.
