Yup, I knew that existed. I actually REALLY like those words so I go to it whenever I'm in need of inspiration (not anything to do with apple fanboy stuff, but rather because I find the words themself inspirational when I'm trying to create something myself).

It won the best "ad" award in the UK a few years ago...

It should have won many more!

i agree.
1984 was considered one of the best ad's of all time but i dont see why.
the think different ad was much better.

funny you mentioned that..

while I was in the new London Apple Retail Store here the other day (http://www.apple.com/uk/retail) (this is the last time i'll mention it OK!!), they were playing the old ad's on the theatre screen between the demonstrations and presentations, including the 1984 Mac release one - it was the first time i'd seen it play (only ever seen stills)... very impressive.

wait until you see the 1985.
was a load of crap compared to 1984

But i love them all :)
thy did a few really good ad's for 10.2 but the were never released.
ive got them if anybody wants them

Don't forget, Apple released a rework of their original 1984 ad earlier this year (20th anniversary) with the buxom, bouncing blonde with the big sledgehammer toting an ipod. Very good work.

they did?

Yes, they sure did.

I remember the talk at the time from those in the industry saying that the ipod (clipped to her waist) and the earphone cables that bounced around as she ran were so well done that it was hard to believe that had just been added to the 20 year old movie.

see here: http://www.apple.com/hardware/ads/1984/

3rd December 2004, 12:48 PM
Sure did.

Edit: Gah, Mark bet me to it :P

Steve Jobs had tears in his eyes when he saw "think Different" for the first time. He help make the add too - its a shame Apple doesn't use "Think Different" anymore. I wish it got more into pop culture just like other brands slogans.

3rd December 2004, 07:33 PM
Are you kidding? I think this slogan is part of the pop culture zeitgeist! I hear it varied and mentioned all the time.

Really? Not many people I know or talk to know "Think Different" :(

3rd December 2004, 08:26 PM
I think because the ads were rather more subtle than today's. Most I saw were posters of Einstein and other exceptional people with "Think Different" at the bottom.

3rd December 2004, 09:46 PM
the last part of the script "Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do." is my nickname in MSN! I love that part of the apple site, I just found it out like 1-2 week(s) ago!

4th December 2004, 07:57 AM
A lot of people think that "arties" are the only one that use Think Different. I don't help by using quotes from it in my art essays, but hey, they were right, why shouldn't I quote it!

I remember reading an interview with steve jobs, and he was talking about the whole think drifferent campaign. He just got back to apple, company was in a mess, employee's were uncertain about their jobs, some employees were leaving because of a fear they'd be retrenched.... and then steve was in a meeting with apple's advertising firm and its own marketing department, and they came up with an idea for a campaign that would be focus not only on its customers, but also to inspire and motivate its employees...... and thus think different was born.
