Hi guys, I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I am now in the market for my first digicam... (yes, shock, horror...I must be one of the only people in Aus to not have one!). I know which kind I want, and I've had my eye on the Fuji S3000 (?)(6x Optical, 3.2mp). But now I saw the Olympus something or other, which had 8x optical, and only 3mp) Which would you recommend? I'd like something with the highest of both (megapixel and optical zoom), but for less than $400. Both the cameras mentioned above are under or slightly over that price. I'm not really interested in the cameras that have only a small optical zoom, so any recommendations you might have would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Ash.

I have an older Fuji S2800 (6x Optical, 2mp) and it does a great job most of the time. It is fantastic for outdoor photography but is not so great for indoor shots at night. For less than $400 the S3000 is great value.

go there and read what he has to say. doesn't matter where you buy but there is very good info on this page that will help you choose. and unlike the big stores he doesn't hold stock so he won't push what ever is on the shelf, he will tell you straight.

there are pdfs on buying tips and things to think about. have a look.
