Tonight after work my G4 ibook's screen wouldn't work after I awoke it from sleep. After a couple of reboots the screen worked but It'd have a Kernal Panic when booting or shortly after logging in. I tried to reboot it a couple more times but once again the screen would just stay off after the reboot.

I haven't added any hardware or software for at least a week and the RAM is the 1GB that came

When logged in SMARTreporter seemed to indicate that the HDD was fine. I ran Disk Utils to verify the permissions. Some permissions are wrong but I'd get a KP before I had a chance to fix them. I see that the Tiger disk has disk utils that run from the CD but If I cant get the screen going how can I fix them?

Luckily I've just started doing daily backups (mail/ical/address book/important files) a couple of weeks ago but I've got a roll or two on iphoto I'd like to get back. Any suggestions?

Any ideas would be appreciated

have you tried booting in verbose mode?

hold down CMD+V when booting
