View Full Version : Spotlight and External Drive

Does anyone know how to exclude Spotlight from searching an exteranl USB hard drive?

I have a 250Gb Lacie Brick which has a duplication of my files on it. When it is plugged in and on and I use Spotlight is finds two versions of a given file (one on the Makintosh HD and one on Lacie).

I have tried adding the Lacie to Privacy within Spotlight but it won't let me?

Any thoughts?

System Preferences>Spotlight>Privacy. I just dragged my 200Gig external firewire drive there from the desktop and it seems to have worked. :)

Yep, just double checked, try dragging it into the list from the desktop.....

Open spotlight preferences and drag the drive into the privacy area... trust me it will work...

Tried that... still find the files on the external drive.

When I drop the External Drive on into the Privacy area nothing appears??

What are the ownerships/permissions on your external drive? Mine seems to be owned by the system (but I can read and write) when I check under "Get Info"

EDIT: The ownerships is under "details" so you will need to expand it....

Allit says under Ownerships & Permissions is "You can read and write"
