Can't wait for Leopard to (hopefully) give you a consistent interface style? Here are a couple of haxies that will apply the Unified style across your system: UNO (http://gui.interacto.net/) and Iridium (http://sagefire.org/category/software/iridium/).

I've only tried UNO so far, and it works a treat. It gives you the option of the darker Unified style, which I prefer.

vort - have you moved iTunes out of the applications folder or into a subfolder of applications, if so, put it back...

Funnily enough, over the last week I have been trying to get UNO to download, but had been having no luck until this morning. For some reason the like at macupdate.com was directing me back to UNO's homepage and the download link on the homepage was directing me to macupdate.com  I ended up having to email UNO's developers and ask for a direct link! Maybe I am just a muppet and no one else was having that problem!

I think I have too many apps that wont play nice with UNO, so I might give iridium a go :)

I've noticed UNO makes the title bars thinner. And the Spotlight icon smaller. And, in Safari, the Google search field is wider.

I played around with uno about six months or a year ago and decided i couldn't live with the glitches. I like the sound of the darker "itunes"esque option though.

Anyone feel like doing a few screenshots of various apps?

activity monitor, safari, firefox, skype, and maybe something like font explorer X for instance?
got this one from the site...

I know it's not the same, but I've been manually hacking some apps.

Preview and HyperEdit:

I can't figure out how to get Transmit unified though.

That's the way I prefer to do it too; Uno was just too glitchy for my liking (things would break their appearance, for instance). The only ones I've done it to are the previous version of NetNewsWire, MarsEdit, Preview and I played with it in Safari and iChat, but reverted to normal.

To explain how it's done:

Open the application's NIB file in Interface Builder (it's a Developer's application, installed with the Dev Tools) and check the "Unified" option in the inspector for the window you want.

Yeah ^^^ that's pretty much it. It can be quite tricky as some apps have HEAPS of NIB files, and finding the right window might not be obvious.

Kit :: Were you able to find the right bit to make viewing PDFs in preview unified? I've only done it to viewing images. Can't find what I need.

Btw, I *think* those icons for HyperEdit are now going to be the official ones with the app :) I emailed the author and he liked them. Just need to do an app icon now.

Edit :: I just tried Safari. Kit, you're right. Looks worse as the bookmarks bar and tabs don't really match. I'm leaving it as is.

Am I the only one that finds the 'Unified' theme totally hideous? I'll stick with panther white and brushed metal any day, thanks! :-)

I'm happy with either Brushed Metal or Unified, so long as there's consistency. (Apple might have its reasons for the mixed styles, but they ain't obvious). Plus anything is better than Vista's transparent-titlebars-just-because-we-can.
