In what is a first for the iTunes Music Store, Irish mega-band U2 have exclusively released the first single off their forthcoming album on the iTunes music store (yeah sorry, still only available in UK, US & parts of Europe).. Save me writing the detail, here is a link to an article by Jonny Evans (Sept 28, 2004) from Macworld UK (http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index.cfm?NewsID=9745) detailing how the single has been released exclusively through the iTunes store, weeks prior to its release on other formats - a sign of things to come perhaps for the bigger bands?

The single is being marketed with a fantastic iPod-style video advertisement (available to view at this UK iTunes page (http://www.apple.com/uk/itunes/u2/)), and also poster and on-line image advertising featuring the band members rocking with their guitar amp and mic leads replaced with the now iconic iPod white cables. This is definitely a step-up from the JET - 'Are you gonna be my girl' campaign. If you've got broadband, go get it now, and if you're on dial-up, it's worth the wait to download..

I think this is a great 'exclusive' score for the iTunes Store, with many similar on-line stores cropping up here in the UK (such as Virgin and their recently released Virgin .mp3 Player, (it's got nothing on the iPod!)) and attempting to cut into their huge market domination.

As for the iTunes store, well, you don't really want me to tell you how good it is now do you ;)

Fingers crossed for the Australian store soon..

Cheers,
