Just saw on Apple.com website ARD 3 is now released!

http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/

I like the look of some of the new features like the Application Usage reports and Virtual Curtain Mode.

can anyone see what the upgrade options are? I only 'upgraded' to ARD 2 (.2?) last year and Apple (to my disgust) made our school fork out the same dollars to pay for it as an organisation buying it for the first time......ie - not so much an upgrade as a 'buy it all over again'. I'm darned if I'm going to pay for ARD a third time!!!!!!!

Don't get started on Apple upgrade pricing schemes - we will be here for years..... <_<

I'm stoked with this release - i'll certainly be adding it to the recommended software list for my work.

I wonder if there's any significance (http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/remoteassistance.html) to winxp.apple.com? It's not working at the moment but....

This release looks absolutely dreamy. I would, however, like to know more about the security measures in place to protect some of these features, especially Remote Spotlight. Does anyone else have concerns?

Yeah, seriously though, it's the hostname that they gave to a Windows test system on their domain so that they could demonstrate it. It could just as easily said suselinux.apple.com or solaris.apple.com. Get the idea?

I just want to control one other machine remotely, it'd be nice if Apple at a cheaper alternative for my purposes...

Otherwise I'll go looking for chickens. ...

Well I got my hands on it yesterday. I have to say, I'm quite impressed by the Spotlight search. Very handy for when I want a file that's at home and I'm elsewhere.

The only downside to it is that you really need a decent connection at both ends.
I'm controlling my Mini at home from my iBook at my parent's place, but the image of the Mini's screen downloads a tad slow, especially when the dock is magnified.

This is really worth the money, for sure.
