View Full Version : Apple's Pages

Hi Folks

With deadline looming a document I created in Pages keeps crashing Pages (ie it quits) when I export to PDF. It quits when I use the 'export' function and the print as PDF function. I am using iWork 06 on a G5 Powermac, although my wife has replicated it on an Intel Mac. I have tried saving a version as iwork 05 but to no avail.

My hunch is that it has been happening since the Software update this morning.

Any ideas?

nuke the prefs for it, and see if that fixes it.

The prefs file to remove: (your home folder)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist

Also check your crash reporter logs in Console. (click 'logs' in the toolbar, then open up ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Pages.crash.log )

Thanks Disko

Killing the preferences didn't help. The Pages crash log shows a kern protection failure.

I sent the file to a colleague who hasn't installed the latest OSX update. He used the freebie Pages you get with new Macs and converted the file to PDF.

Pages is proving to cause more problems than its worth.

Go to print, then "Preview" then save the preview. That works.

If you like, paste the first and second sections of the panic log (first section contains the date of the crash) - they show which bits of code were involved in the crash. We might be able to figure out something from it.

Thanks, I'd appreciate that. I think these are the bits you mean:

I can't replicate the issue with any of my Pages files... It must be a odd conflict with something in your document?

Looks vaguely like something in the System's Core Graphics isn't liking your file. Core Graphics was updated in 10.4.6, which also has to do with the dual-reboot on PPC machines.

Replicate the crash, and when the offer of sending a report comes up, do send it, stating in the relevant area that you were trying to print to PDF and roughly what your document contains.
