Hey, my cousin sophie wants 2 get an iPod and she was thinking if she could give me the cash to buy it for her in Australia, it wouldnt cost as much? How much would a 4G 20GB iPod be in pounds?

then you can convert it into Australian dollars at http://www.xe.com/ucc

Time for more maths. Currently $1 AU buys about 40 pence (actually 39.8something; check this out http://www.xe.com/ucc/) therefore $400 AU will be about 160 pounds (yes, I don't know what keys would turn the dollar symbol into pounds). I'm guessing the whole scheme would not pay or there would be dodgy export schemes all over the place.

They are cheaper in Australia, even when you are earning pounds in the UK which is a factor.

Just buy it in Australia, that way you have it now, and if there are any faults it can be returned to the store of purchase immediately..

Also consider the different powerpoint issue. A multi-country adaptor kit on the Apple store is around A$80 i think which is quite rediculous for what you get. Yes you can buy a single Korjo travel adapter for it so that you could use a UK model here, but why bother, just buy it in Oz.

I brought all of my gear (G4 P'book, 4th Gen 40gb iPod, Airport Express) before I left Australia so that I could test it all out before leaving, and have it all with Australian compatible plugs for when I return in 18 months or so.

I've got the world adaptor kit..... damn its expensive.
I'd say it'd be cheaper and better off if you just used a regular conversion adaptor from some electronics store that'd cost you $10.

Or you could just use your mac or pc to charge it :)

Still off topic, but stuff it, the topic is over:

Hey Jack, I'll be there for sure to get my Store Opening free t-shirt!! Apparently they are a prized posession and I want one!

I've been following the rumours surrounding this store and expected the announcement by Steve the other day, confirming the opening date. Very exciting for the first one in Europe to be here rather than Paris or Germany. The resellers here aren't really up to scratch..

Here is a link (http://www.ifoapplestore.com/) to a great site which speculates and provides information on Apple Retail Stores, openings and potential roll-out programs.. It has a heap of information on the new Regent Street store (which is right near my HSBC bank branch!!), and the store's construction which is almost finished (went past last week).. Here is the official Apple site for the store opening (http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/regentstreet/).

I'm really looking forward to it, and if any AppleTalkers will be around, let me know.. I've been told to be there by at least 7am for a 10am opening to guarantee a t-shirt - only 2,500 will be given out..!

Pics below of Store construction site taken 2 weeks ago, and 3 months ago, for interests sake:
(if anyone's been to London and done the touristy stuff, its just around the corner from Piccadilly Circus, on the way to Oxford Circus tube)

i ummed and ahhed about it since i would have to change all my travel arrangements and sacrifice a week's holiday, which would have meant spending even more money in london, and then realising that i would do something stupid at the opening (like buy a new iPod Photo...!), so i've decided not to stay - it's only an apple store......

and the thought of queuing up for the opening...i'm too old for that shit :D

i'm sure it'll be a fun opening B)

whoa, hang on there - we're not talking just any ordinary AppleCentre or Mac1 franchise/reseller store - this is the real deal people, an Apple Retail Store..!

the first ever outside of the U.S. and Japan in fact.. see the Apple retail page here for details (http://www.apple.com/retail/)

while you may have to wait a little while longer for an Australian iTunes Music Store, you'll be waiting even longer for one of these -

I shall keep you posted on what will be the biggest thing in the UK since The Beatles :P

well arsenalmad10, i've spent way too much money over the last 12 months, and added to the trip to london, and all the presents for nieces & nephews and friends etc, forking out another 'x' pounds for the new iPod is something that, once inside the new store with all the gleaming new hardware, i just 'know' i will do...!

it's my way of self control - treat the cause, not the sympton

the belittling of the 'apple store' is just a way to delude myself that it really isn't worth going to...! there are no apple owned stores stores in australia, and i don't foresee one until we have iTMS

yinyang seems to have a habit of finding peoples secret identities. Got a PM from my nephew once saying that 'yinyang' had referred him to me regarding 'something' (to the absolute best of my knowlege I had never discussed that issue in this forum)

I still wonder about it.....

EDIT: come to think of it I have no idea how he knew I was related to the other guy either.

I posted the above in an earlier post.. see the link in the original post to an Apple Store fan site that has store opening information etc. and a Forum with feedback from people who go to these openings all the time in the U.S.

Plenty of sites such as MacWorld etc are talking about it, with almost all speculating about a Steve appearance - which would make any queing up worth the wait..

Once I get my prized Store Opening T-Shirt, I'll take some pics, and will report back to disko and decryption with tales of my retail adventure..

Might even catch fellow UK AppleTalker Jack there. Looks like a 5:30am tube will be necessary to get in the line-up - and in late November that's gonna be chilly!
