Millionaire adventurer Steve Fosset is currently in the air attempting to break the record for the longest non-stop flight in a purpose built jet powered plane.

Setting off from Cape Canaveral at 12:22:09UTC Steve plans to travel 41,978km in 80
hours.

There's all sorts of realtime data on the official website (http://www.virginatlanticglobalflyer.com/Home/index.jsp) - my favourite is the level of Cosmic Radiation (http://www.virginatlanticglobalflyer.com/ScienceAviation/SolarMetrics/solarReadings.jsp) Steve is experiencing throughout the flight (he's flying at high altitude - over 40,000ft or 12190m).

You can also read about it at the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4693312.stm).

Not entirely true.

Also, the research used in making a plane that can fly around the world on one tank of fuel can be applied to commercial aviation to reduce greenhouse gases.

And if you sold your computer and cancelled your ISP contract you'd be able to send the money you saved to benefit children in Africa :)

It's his money and he can do what he wants with it. It's governments which waste other people's money which really annoys me.

This applies to all governments, as far as I'm concerned. No wonder why top business tycoons pillage every taxation loophole to legally hold onto more of their dough - much better in their pockets than the government's.

That's a fair enough comment :)
