View Full Version : Macintosh Plus - blown power supply - please help

Hi All,

My first foray into vintage Mac computing went up in smoke.

I bought a Macintosh Plus on ebay that had a US power supply but the voltage converter I used obviously didn't step down the voltage properly.
I'm assuming it is fried. I am just wondering whether I can buy an "Aussie" Mac Plus with a 240 volt power supply and substitute it?

Jeff

This is my Mac I was wondering if I could replace the power supply from this Macintosh classic:

I opened up the PC and its seems the fuse has blown - hopefully that's all that's happened

Alas, I replaced the fuse but the same problem happened again. Anyone know what resistors these are?

Are you handy with a soldering iron/safely handling high voltage electronics?

As far as I know a Classic PSU won't work in a Plus, the systems are quite different in design.

Also, are you using a proper step-down transformer (i.e. 240v to 110v) or something else?

Hi there yes and yes. I've give up on fixing the power supply on the plus but I'm thinking of putting the Mac plus board into a classic chassis and see if that works
