I'm sorry that I cannot explain it correctly, but the ding sound is like the sound you get when you try to backspace, or is you have a browsing box up and you click outside the box. This has never happened before. I found out about this when I plugged my mac in after the removal guys brought it in yesterday. The sound is also very faint, until you put your ear to the back. The sound disappears when I go to a website (I use Chrome) and appeard when i click on the URL bar. My iMac is 21.5 Inches, bought in 2011.
Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
L2 Cache: 256 KB
L3 Cache : 6 MG
And I have used 383.96 GB of 499 GB

I shut down my mac, unplugged everything and held the power button for 5 seconds and turned it back on and has only done it once. I hope this will help. I also realised that I hadn't plugged it in correctly.

Here is what is sounds like Vocaroo | Voice message (http://vocaroo.com/i/s1VW3rzhOvZq)

Hi skrdnz,

If you google "iMac chirping sound", people are reporting similar things - the main thing to rule out would be fan/bearing noise (blast the vents with a can of compressed air). Otherwise, it suggests a quirk with the low-power state of the CPU and possible RF interference noise - the sound was possibly always there.
