View Full Version : Acquired a Mac Plus and it still works

I acquired a Mac Plus with 4megs today, as my neighbor is gutting out their house and throwing stuff out. Luckily this thing still seems to work and has the mouse, and a working disk drive, what it's missing is a keyboard.

I'm hoping it's buried somewhere in their flat, and not in the big skip outside, if so, I'm desperate enough to dig through the massive skip in some remote hope that I can find the keyboard since it uses that RJ cable instead of the slightly more modern PS/2 cable. That skip is getting full though :(

I'm worried it might have gotten thrown out sooner (like last week), or left on the back of a Ute to be disposed, if so DAMN!

Does anyone have any of these old Mac Plus keyboards laying around?

Here's a few photos of it below.

Kind Regards,
iTrooper (Greg)

Very cool but I hate that screen filter!

This Mac Plus is a beige model, that mouse too. You'll need to look out for a beige keyboard to match nicely. I feel like platinum (the lighter colour plastic) is much more common. That said, Mac Plus keyboards are not at all "common" really but best of luck!

I have sent you a link to a keyboard for sale on Gumtree, however it's platinum colour... I'll keep an eye out. Unfortunately I don't have any spares and am short keyboards myself (especially beige).

I have an expanded version that will work with the plus but is not an actual plus keyboard....

was curious to look up its age and specs: Apple Macintosh Plus (1986) (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_classic/specs/mac_plus.html)

Yeah, I might take that filter off and clean around where the velcro bits are.

I've been digging around the skip all morning, finding various windows and old IBM keyboards, even an old Amstrad computer, BUT not the Glorious Apple keyboard :(
(Typical when you want to find something, it becomes nearly impossible to do so). If it's in the skip it's well hidden, or worse, it's simply not in there at all :(

The next question is, what to do with this ol' thing. The mouse is still there and the thing more or less works, it'll need a boot disk to start it up though.

Most B&W games run well on the Plus - Shufflepuck Cafe, Carmen Sandiego, Prince of Persia, Dark Castle - all classics. You'd be doing yourself a favour by getting an external SCSI HD for it, and sourcing boot floppie(s) to set up System 6.08.

Haha, before all that Byrd, I desperately need a keyboard which doesn't look likely to turn up :(

I did manage to acquire an external floppy disk drive as well too, but it's definitely not for this unit as the plug in the back differs, as well as the colour obviously.

I can sell you a keyboard for it!!

That external floppy drive is for a Powerbook 100 - they didn't include an internal hd.

Hey Itropper- I got your pm, but can't reply... It says you haven't allowed for PMs to be received.

I also scored a machine with an upgrade by this mob: https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/22553-conquest-macintosh-512k-m0001ed-in-beige-with-ram-upgrade/

Sure was! I contacted them with a link to the thread, and they were pretty happy that their handiwork was still running strong.
